First lady Madame Sophia Martelly
A well deserving First lady who has a lot of merit for her philantropic work which started at a very young age. Madame Sophia Martelly, started on the good samaritan road when she become interested in volunteering for the disadvantaged. She lent her services to Providence Hospital in Gonaives. For over seventeen years, she has met her commitmentsto the poor, the poor, neglected.
Each year she brings joys to hundreds of families around christmas time by providing hot meals to the poor and toys children as well as toiletries to women living in precarious conditions. She believes that active solidarity , is the key element for the betterment of people.
In 2004, with the support of her husband she initiated and organized for AmCham and PADF, a telethon which raised over eleven million bottles for flood victims in Mapou and Fonds Verrettes.
In November 2008, she was honored by President René Préval with the highest distinction , " National Order of Honor and Merit to the rank of Knight ," for her commitment and unconditional support to the victims of the collapse of the school Nerette Petion Ville.
She is the co-founder and coordinator of Pink and White and white Foundation Rose Foundation and White (FREB). Gifted with a keen sense of organization, combining the roles of mother, teacher , wife and manager of the Rose and White Foundation, she strives to give the best of itself.
Most important of all, she is the pillar behind the current administration's social agenda which highlights access to basic social services to the poor, daily fight to end hunger and malnutrition in Haiti as well as making sure that Haiti remains on the millinium goal to provide access to education and health care to all.
